In Memory of Jacob Daniel Hayes, July 28th 1984 - December 18th 2008
Jacob was always there for the community. He assisted with the Plano 4th of July Parade, represented the Marines for the Blue Star Mothers at the Allen Symphony Veteran's Day concert, and visited the David B McCall Elementary School, in his uniform, to talk to the students about his proud service to our country. Jacob and his parents joined in our ride every year. Jacob was a fine young man, a good son and father, an outstanding Marine, and a great American.

Jacob was born in Plano, Texas, the youngest of 4.
You know I was talking to someone about Jacob's great PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) the other day and they said he got that from me. I told them he did not. That before he left for boot camp Jacob was not that way. He tended to be depressive and negative about himself especially. As a mother I was always trying to boost up his self esteem but he had 3 older siblings that were hard to live up to. I honestly give the Marines the credit for making him believe in himself and that he could do anything he wanted to do.

On December 18, 2008 Jacob Hayes tragically passed away, leaving behind a young daughter who will come to know her father through the legacy that his family and friends will pass on. Jacob’s life was a testament to the perseverance, humility, strength, and compassion to which we all strive. Lance Corporall Hayes proudly served as a United States Marine in Iraq and, despite the injuries leading to retirement, aspired to a career in firefighting in order to maintain the physical excellence, a commitment and loyalty to comrades, public service, and the possibility of danger Jacob loved so much yet never wavered under that the Marine Corps demanded.
Jacob struggled to find the funds necessary to attend Fire Academy at Collin College and equally so to pass the tests required for admittance to the program. The tests he passed, but news of acceptance to the program came just a few days after his passing. To honor Jacob’s accomplishment a scholarship has been established in his name. It is my hope that we can pass on his legacy by providing financial assistance to deserving applicants. The Jacob Hayes Memorial Scholarship will hopefully raise enough funds to help cover the cost of Fire Academy for a retired service member each year.
